Registered Professional Engineer
Peter Okonkwo, P.E., is a registered professional engineer in the state of Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Mr. Okonkwo is the President/CEO of Spectra Engineering & Research, Inc, a full services civil engineering, planning and land surveying consulting firm for the past 31 years. He is married with five children.
Mr. Okonkwo has over 35 years of experience in civil and environmental engineering practice. In the course of his professional career, Mr. Okonkwo has served as lead design engineer, project manager, and permitting/environmental engineer on several projects of various sizes and complexity. Mr. Okonkwo’s consulting and design experience covers all phases of project performance, including client contact, design and construction administration. As the principal and Lead Design Professional in most of Spectra Engineering’s projects, Mr. Okonkwo is in charge of Quality Assurance Review and ensures that clients receive quality work products, on time and as budgeted. His background and experience are in site planning and engineering, infrastructure design, roadway/highway design, land development, stormwater facility design, water and wastewater systems design, sanitary sewer systems design, environmental and contamination assessments, permitting and project management. Mr. Okonkwo has completed several projects for public- and private- sector clients.
Peter has been a strong advocate for encouraging science and math education in our public schools. Long before “stem” program was introduced in the school system, Peter founded “Citizens for Youth Academic Improvement, Inc.” (CYAI), an organization whose mission was to encourage and motivate youngsters to excel in math and science through mentoring, incentives and cash rewards. The “CYAI” program was very successful and spread through several Leon County elementary schools and Thomasville Georgia schools. CYAI received awards and recognitions from the then state commissioner for education late Betty Castor, and Leon County schools.
Peter is a charter member and past president of Rotary Club of Tallahassee Southside. Mr. Okonkwo currently serves on several boards and advisory councils.
